General Information & Expectations
ATTENDANCE Students are expected to attend school regularly and on time. Classes begin at 9:30 (10:30 on Wednesday). To be prepared and in class, students should arrive at school by 9:20 (10:20 on Wednesday). Appointments during the school day require a note or phone call from the parent/guardian requesting early release permission. Students turn notes into the Attendance Office before school.
We ask that parents come in with any form of ID to the Attendance Window to sign their student out. If your student is going to be absent or late, please call the attendance hotline at 503-353-5680 (option 1).
CLOSED CAMPUS Students may not leave the school grounds during school hours or upon unloading from the morning bus or reaching campus.
SCHOOL BUS PROCEDURES In order to promote safety and efficiency, the school district has set specific regulations for riding the school bus. The driver is the official in charge and that control is absolute. The administration of this school will support the driver without reservation. Violation of bus rules, displays of disrespect toward the driver, other adults, or fellow students will cause loss of bus riding privileges. Students that need to ride a bus other than the one assigned to them, or get off at a bus stop other than their own, must have written permission from their parent/guardian. Students will submit the parent note to the main office. Phone permission will not be accepted.
BACKPACKS Due to limited space and to eliminate safety hazards, backpacks MUST be stored in student lockers. You need to bring chromebooks, binder, and a pencil pouch to class. No over the shoulder bags or totes in class.
LOCKERS Each student will be assigned a locker and issued a combination. Combinations should not be given to anyone other than the occupant of the locker. Lockers are not to be shared. If any locker problem evolves, notify the office immediately. Student lockers are the property of the school and are subject to search. Do not leave lockers open/unlocked. Staff are more than happy to help with a stuck locker or re-teach using a combination lock.
ELECTRONICS NCSD has partnered with YONDR for student pouches. The YONDR pouch is a secure bag that is used to store an individual’s mobile device or devices. When students arrive at school, they turn off, or silence their devices (phone, smartwatch, etc.) and put them in their YONDR pouch. The pouch is then locked, and students can carry it with them throughout the day. At the end of the day, students can unlock their pouches at specific locations in the school.
Improper use of devices result in the following consequences:
- First Incident: Schools will document the offense and ask the student to solve the issue (in most cases this means put the phone in the pouch)
- Second Incident: Schools will reteach the “Why” behind the expectations, collect the phone in the office, and notify guardian(s). The phone will be given back at the end of the day.
- Third Incident: Schools will reteach the Why, collect the phone and issue the phone back to the guardian(s), not the student.
- Fourth Incident: Schools will meet with the student and guardian(s) to construct a plan tailored to meet the needs of the student.
LUNCHES Starting in September, 2024, ALL NCSD students who attend a school that serves breakfast and lunch are eligible to receive both a breakfast and lunch at no cost. Middle and high schools will only collect money for a la carte (Outtakes) purchases that are not part of a full lunch purchase.
CLASS FEES Most elective courses require a class fee. Class Fees can be paid to the Bookkeeper with cash, debit/credit or checks made out to RCMS. Please contact the bookkeeper with any questions.
STUDENT MEDICATIONS Medication (prescription or over-the-counter) that is needed for your child to remain in school must come in a fully labeled original container and you must fill out and sign the medication assistance form available in the office. Medications may not be carried by students unless a physician gives permission to self-medicate with an inhaler.
FAMILY AND STUDENT HANDBOOK Students are required to follow the policies and practices outlined in the NSCD Student and Family Handbook.
CHROMEBOOK INSURANCE FORM The district offers an optional Chromebook Insurance plan that provides an inexpensive solution for families to reduce the financial burden of accidental damage or theft. The insurance plan is available for an annual fee of $25.00. Families who decline to participate in the Chromebook Insurance Program will be fully responsible for any associated cost for damage, loss, or theft. Please visit the office to pick up a copy.
